Embracing Discomfort: My Journey Through Life's Major Transitions

Have you ever faced a season full of transitions that felt overwhelmingly uncomfortable and hard at times?

In a period of just four years, my life, which was previously familiar and stable, was turned completely upside down. My husband at the time revealed to me that he had completely changed the direction of his life; he had become gender-fluid and pansexual, and his once rock-solid Christian beliefs had shifted to atheism. We loved each other deeply yet had no choice but to part ways.

After the painful divorce, I found a new partner, remarried, and together we decided to follow the call of God in our lives, which led us to move from Illinois to Northern California. If that wasn't enough, I also transitioned from my role as a full-time senior leader of a church to becoming a full-time leadership coach and CEO.

Throughout these years, there were significant periods of grieving for the past, alongside moments of exciting new beginnings. Anxiety about how these monumental changes would turn out often mingled with joyous anticipation of the new paths. Being a trailblazer, I embraced these transitions, but they were riddled with sorrow and pain, making me wonder what could have been done differently. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, encompassing the full range of human experience.

Transitions are an unavoidable part of life, often serving as invitations for growth. They can be tremendously challenging but also rewarding. Partnering with a coach or mentor can keep you focused on your destination and support you through the discomfort.

If you're facing a transition in your life, remember to keep your eyes on the destination and trust that these seasons of change are shaping you into a stronger, wiser version of yourself.
